What Is Love

(I wrote this a couple years ago, but I still like the poem)

-- I know Love is much more than what i wrote below. But I'm trying to capture a glimpse of an understanding. Of course I know there is much more to it... I believe Love is undefinable. And those of us that try to define it, will always leave things out unintentionally belittling what love really means.   
 
 
What is Love?
 
It's the one word that's nearly impossible to define…
And so many different degrees of love, yours will differ from mine…
 
Not saying one is better than the next… 
Just varies so differently in many respects…
 
Is it so abstract that it is easier to experience than to explain?
Is it undefinable? Essentially spiritual? or just chemical reactions in the brain?
 
Is it metaphysical in nature?  And therefore we'll never know?
Or do we know what love is - only after our heart decides to tell us so?
 
Here's what love is to me…
 
It's an intense feeling of oneness with a person you adore…
Where your happiness depends on her happiness… and hers depends on yours.
 
When each simple kiss is like making passionate love…
When the thought crosses your mind that GOD may have actually sent her from above…
And you wonder what have you done for GOD to put her in your life?
Then you promise GOD that from now on you will only do right.
 
When her smile is all it takes to brighten up your entire day…
And just hearing her voice, makes all of your problems go away…
 
When they are the first person you speak to in the morning… so that everything can feel right…
and they are the last one you talk to before falling asleep at night…
 
When they literally become your future… and everything you do… is in consideration for the both of you…
 
When you will do anything for her in each and every possible way…
Knowing that just by being near her, makes today better than yesterday...
 
They become your everything… the very air that you breathe…
They're every beautiful flower and every beautiful thing that you see.
 
You watch her fall asleep in your arms… and although she can't hear you…
You still kiss her softly on her lips and whisper,  "I love you beautiful".
 
Then there comes a day when you no longer see her as you used to…
You see a glow emanating from her and it gets brighter as she walks near you…
 
You see so much more now... You see her heart and soul shining through her eyes -
Staring back at you... No secrets… no Lies…
It's enchanting... You become hypnotized...
She's not just looking at you... it's like you're looking into her heart and soul, while the same time she is looking deep into yours...
Her soul connects and intertwines with yours -
Using your eyes as the outlet and both of your hearts as the source…
And you want to know if this is love?....  The answer is... "of course".
 
...perfect love.
